This course provides an ideal opportunity to learn the essentials and deepen your enjoyment of the countryside.
What will you learn?
- Planning and preparation: Learn how to effectively plan your walks, taking into account factors such as distance, terrain, weather, and personal capabilities.
- Navigation: Develop your map and compass skills, including understanding contours, taking bearings, and relocating yourself if you become lost.
- Movement skills: Learn how to move efficiently and safely over different types of terrain, including steep ground and rough paths.
- Environmental awareness: Gain a deeper understanding of the mountain environment, including weather patterns, potential hazards, and Leave No Trace principles.
Important note: This is NOT the Hill and Moorland Leader scheme. The Mountain Skills course focuses on personal development and does not qualify you to lead groups. However, it's a great foundation for those considering further training in mountain leadership.
